BELMONT WRAP - Saturday 23rd August - Track : GOOD Rail : 8m
Former Victorian galloper Escadaire again came up trumps and made it two wins in as many starts in W.A. when he sat outside the leader throughout, then raced away for a great victory over perennial placegetter Local Legend and Fim Maru who turned in a terrific first up run after racing just off the pace. The dual Melbourne city winner had some heart irregularities after his winning debut in this state 28 days ago, but dispelled any worries with a brilliant trial win at Belmont on August 11th. Casper Cowboy went to the post at a ridiculous quote of 2.20 given his form over beyond 1000m and as we stated in our preview looked the knock of the day. Casper Cowboy was never a factor and finished 9th. Quality mare Keyton Grace was friendless in the betting ring for her return to racing and finished a well beaten commodity back in 11th place.
Race 7 proved a blowout for punters when the rank outsider of the field Basto Man tipped out his more fancied rivals. Basto Man raced first up after a 77 day layoff and broke a 16 winless run streak since winning at Kilmore in Victoria back in September 06 on a raid on Melbourne tracks. Basto Man raced outside race leader Baron Orczy and beat off that galloper half way down the straight to hold out his more fancied rivals. Dajraan ran second and Battle Emblem third, the abject disappointment of the race was Yuro, who has performed well below expectation at both runs back this campaign and may not have come up.
Short priced favourite Black In Time gives backer little concern when she easily wins the 5th at Belmont.
What looked to be on of the best bets of the day on paper, turned out that way when hot pot Black In Time easily accounted for Fight To Live and Jean over the 1200m trip in race 5. Black In Time was beaten less than a length at her previous start behind the very smart Elliotto and that formline looked decisive over her rivals. Boom apprentice Jarrad Noske again showed why he is one of the most sought after riders in the state when he had the favourite perfectly placed throughout just off the speed, the Jimmy Taylor trained mare looked the winner along way out and proved far too strong at the business end.
Star Escort returned
to the winners stall in race 2Star Escort was able to notch his 5th career win when he led throughout to defeat race favourite Given Vision and Empire West over the 1000m course in the second on the card. All 5 wins have been over the 1000m short course. Star Escort was having his third run in this time and after leading and giving ground at his first two runs in, fought on strongly this time to deny his rivals victory. Give Vision ran on from 6th on turn to grab second and Empire West who is racing in career best form wrapped up the minor end of the prize. The win provided rider Simone Altieri with her first city win.

FAVOURITE CHECK

Three favourites were successful on the 8 race card Windfields Farm 2.50 Black In Time 1.65 Striken 2.35 A $10 win bet on each favourite would have resulted in the backer losing $15.00
CLOCKING WINNERS

Escadaire easily ran the fastest of four 1200m races winning in a smart 1.10.89 against the open par of 1.11.4
The fastest 600m sectional for the day was also returned by Tycoon Cut who closed out his race in 32.69 in running 5th to Star Escort
