ASCOT                                                        

    Circumference : 2022m 

    Straight : 294m

    Direction : Anti -Clockwise

    Features :  A good cambered home turn with a slight rise to the post

                    

 

 

Ascot is W.A.'s premier racetrack and is situated around 8km's from Perth's cbd just off the Great Eastern Highway. The Ascot racing season commences the last week in October and continues through to late April. Attendance wise, the two biggest meetings of the year are the Perth Cup  run on new years day and the Melbourne cup fixture. The Railway Stakes 1600m, The Fruit and Veg 1800m, The W.A. Derby 2400m and The Karrakatta Plate 1200m  for 2yo's are other major races run over Ascot's summer carnival.

ASCOT BARRIER GUIDE

1000m :   Straight run of 400m to start of home turn. Inside barriers have an advantage.

1100m :   Straight run of 500m to start of home turn. Again inside barriers are favoured.

1200m :   Straight run of 600m from chute off course proper to only corner. Barriers here of little importance.

1400m :   Barrier is located in a chute with 250m run to first corner. Inside barriers are a distinct advantage, especially in large fields.

1500m :   Barrier located in chute off course proper. 300m run to first bend. Inside barriers a slight advantage.

1600m :   Only 100m to first bend. Inside barriers are a distinct advantage, especially in large fields.

1800m :   300m run to first bend. Inside barriers deemed to be a slight advantage.

2200m :   Barrier located in home straight with a run of 250m to first turn. Inside barriers a slight advantage.

2400m :   Starts in a chute which is an extension of home straight. 450m run to first turn. Barriers of little importance.

3200m :   The cup start is located in the 1200m chute. 600m run to first turn. Barriers of  little importance.

BELMONT

   Direction : Anti - Clockwise

   Features :  Very spacious track with a width of 36.5m

 

 

 

Belmont Park, like Ascot, is situated on the Swan river and is only 3k's from Perth's city centre just past the Burswood casino complex. Belmont is Perth's winter track and the season runs from early May till late October. Belmont Park is regarded as one of Australia's best wet weather tracks with a superb drainage system. The listed H.G.Bolton sprint and Roma Cup both over 1200m attract the state's best sprinters.

BELMONT BARRIER GUIDE

Barrier draws at Belmont Park are generally regarded as having little consequence. Most race starts have a good run before any turns are negotiated. The track is very spacious and the turns are sweeping.
